What are Tarot Cards?

The tarot card is a deck of 78 cards that belong to 2 main groups: Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana usually has 22 cards, each showing a scene featuring people and symbolic elements. Each card represents the trials and tribulations that one faces through life and work together to show the full cycle of how a life event begins all the way to its outcome.

The 22 cards are:

The Fool - Depending on the deck, it can appear at the beginning or the end. One imagery of The Fool shows him carrying all possessions on a stick, accompanied by a dog and with the sun behind him.
The Magician - Usually follows The Fool. The Magician has the sign of the Holy Spirit above his head and a serpent wrapped around his waist,symbolizing eternity.
The High Priestess - Bearing a large cross on her chest, the High Priestess holds a scrool in her hands that signifies the Greater Law. She is the figure who has experienced life and from those experiences, she has the knowledge to govern the Spiritual Reality.
The Empress - She is the mother,creator and nurturer of life
The Emperor - As the ultimate male ego, th emperor sits on his throne with a scepter and the eagle. He is the absolute ruler.
The Hierophant or Pope - This card represents religion and education.
The Lovers - True to its name, this card symbolizes relationships and the choices that one makes in them. The Lovers is often tied to the horoscope sign Gemini.
The Chariot - A prince who sits in a chariot pulled by two horses or sphinxes.
Strength - A virtue card that is meant to represent moderation in all things. The card is of a gentle woman dominating over a lion.
The Hermit - An interpretation of The Hermit is taking in isolation to truely learn about one's self.
Wheel of Fortune - When it appears, it can represent an interfering force.
